THAT'S HOW I ROLL

Branding

The concept of this project was to develop our very own Netflix original. This process included brainstorming characters, a storyline, and locating a physical setting, as well as creating design elements such as cover images, banners, episode thumbnails, and the logotype.

The creative process began with reading Scott McCloud’s "Making Comics" and learning about the nuances of using type and imagery in dynamic, story evolving ways. We completed mulitple exercises practicing these skills. One exercise included walking around campus with a classmate, sharing stories about on-campus happenings and taking photos of the locations they occurred. The task assigned following the walk was to create an engaging composition using the photos and only a few sentences from the story.

Step two involved generating multiple story pitches and beginning the process of development. This section also included brainstorming the name of the show and further, creating the logotype. Below is an image of my first pitch for "That's How I Roll" as well as images of name and logo ideation. After developing the basis of the show and the graphic elements to support it, I was able to begin creating the thumbnails and show banners. The final step was to embed the show into netflix using self-created mockups.
