SINCE: THE HATE ISSUE

2020 marks 100 years since the terrible lynching of three African American, Duluth community members: Elias Clayton, Elmer Jackson, and Issac McGhie. Inspired by a visionary-fiction writing workshop, my peers and I assessed what our community might look like if our past had been different.  We created a shared universe in which the lynchings never occured and long-standing, equitable societal rules and norms existed instead. Within our shared universe we were each responsible for creating an 80 page publication for awareness on a social justice issue and then adapting it to an interactive digital version as well. I focused my publication on the history and prevention of hate groups nation-wide and gathered articles, interviews, images, and created illustrations, ads, and writings of my own. Collectively, my peers and I created 17 issues in total. Mine was issue #5 titled "The Hate Issue." "Since" comes from the idea of what has happened 'since' 1920?
